My neighbor has a Curly Willow tree that small birds love, but you don't see much of them until winter and the tree loses its leaves. The problem is that it's a big tree and my 400 will only reach them when they come close.

Great shots! Didn't expect that hummingbird in the mix!

Real good set of images. I think you have the same problem as the rest of us. :)

Lovely group of captures Jon, and quite the variety found in one tree.
That first Goldfinch looks like it's got a toupe' on...:)

Thanks for all the comments. That 'fill-in flash' is a 580EXII with a Better Beamer.

A very nice set. I really like the last two and the hummer especially is great.

Levina, the hummer was the easiest. I was standing too close to his 'private' feeder that he protects with a passion. He kept getting closer (in fact, inside 400 focusing range) trying to intimidate me into backing off.

Nice shots for sure.

I am really considering this combo. What are the settings? I was messing with a 580 at the camera store today and I had it on 1/800 in Tv mode the flash was is HS at 105mm ETTL and then took a shot inside the store and the image was well over exposed, and I noticed that it was not adjusting the F stop to compensate. I tried it in Av mode and it would pull the SS to 1/60th. I figured it would know the flash is there and adjust accordingly. Is there something I am missing or is that just how it works?
