Hello,
I need a prime lens for low light (range aperture between f/1.4 and f/2, and focal lenght up to 50mm). I use both crop and FF body. It's not necessary to be an EF lens, or Canon lens. I don't have enough money for a L prime.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

EF 50mm f/1.4 Reasonably prices and very good IQ. Build is standard non-L but to smokes the f/1.8 version for build.

BTW, you may want to check out the data in lens table sticky. It has all available lenses for you to look at and compare.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I was going to come in here and suggest the same lens. Works wonders! You can typically pick up the lens and hood for around $320 shipped in the for sell section.

Also depends on whether you're willing to manual focus.

If you are, Olympus offered many lenses in the range 21-50 in a variety of f-stops. Ditto for Zeiss in the Contax/Yashica mount.

Either is easily adapted to the Canon EF mount but you loose autofocus and auto aperture.

You should be cautious that fast lenses bring narrow depths of field which makes focus very critical. It's sometimes appropriate to wind up the ISO a little.

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.
