I got pretty adept at cleaning a 5Dc sensor with my Copperhill Kit. It took a few swabs, but I was finally able to clean all the oil spots on the sensor.

I have recently found an oil spot on my 5DII very similar to the ones I used to get on the 5Dc; its persistent and won't go away with air or brush.

I'd like to use swabs to do a thorough wet cleaning of the 5DII this weekend and I just wanted to see if there are any extra precautions I need to take becuse this would be my first cleaning of a self cleaning sensor. Is the method exactly the same? I don't wanna 'break' the sensitive vibrational sensor cleaning function cause I'm not even sure where it is :)

P.S. Amazingly, my 2 year old 7D (probably has the same autoclean mechanism as the 5DII) has had ZERO oil spots. In fact I have never had to even use air or brush on it .. it just stays clean :)

Where did the oil come from? I've got 3 bodies here and haven't found oil on any of mine.

alpha,

There should be no difference cleaning the 5D2 than any other cam.

The amount of oil found in D-SLRs varies greatly, some will have no trace at all while others have quite a bit. Really don't know why other than different technicians assembling and/or servicing. But a full-frame sensor probably attracts more oil and debris than a 1.6.

@rick .. the mirror assembly on the 5Dc is well known for slinging lubricant on the sensor. I was hoping the 5DII was immune from it, but it seems not ..
