can someone please explain to me how to get the blue sky between clouds to actually look more blackish than blueish?

if you were referring to my photo, thats how the sky was, overcast cloudy day.
desaturate the blues if you can in the photo.

no im referring to pictures where the clouds are white but there is a lot of clear in the sky. the clear is normally blue but in some pics the clear is blackish like youre seeing through the atmosphere and into space. i love the effect and would like to know how to emulate it.

Found this old crane next to my dad's house. Processed in Photomatix Pro, Topaz Adjust, Perfect Photo Effects. Went for a more contrasty and gritty look on this one to bring out the interior
