Canon DLSR Speed Challenge #224 - ENTRANCES

Whatever your interpretation of an entrance is, except please no childbirth or newborn shots - I'm really not into baby judging.

This challenge begins when posted, and will end at 12:00 noon PST, Sunday January 29, 2012. Winner of this challenge will be announced shortly thereafter.

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR Camera
2. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size - Please visit Image Posting Rules.
4. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting - * ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.* Photo Name in the message subject line.* Camera model & lens used.* Notes -- post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
6. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Keep it clean, and both Family and Work-safe.
8. Have questions, PM me.
9. Have FUN!

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

Thanks, everyone, for posting such interesting interpretations of the theme - all winners in their own way!

Some of the entrances themselves were more impressive than others (e.g. Maureen, Allen) and some were intriguing and led me to wonder what was behind them (Jason, Jean-Guy, Kevan).

LJG's entry was a nice shot of multiple entries, a couple were maybe pushing the definition (Pinnacle's sunrise and Goodysgotacuda's HDR cruise ships), and I would have liked to see John_B's train door not so dominated by border, signature and title (which, incidentally, should be on the subject line).

NVM's entrance to what I'm sure is that park in Vancouver's Chinatown makes me wish I could return there and shoot for a whole day - a unique and truly beautiful place.


In the end, I chose the one I'd hang on the wall if it were mine, so...

The winners are:

FIRST: Jason_C's "221". Please let us know what is through that curving, slightly scary entrance with its faded graffiti. A slum? Back door of a palace? Detention centre?

SECOND: Kevan's "210 Forest Ave". A classy facade indeed - your house?

THIRD: MSJGD's slave entrance (although I'd love to see it without that heavy border and title)

My image was taken while traveling in the Midwest, from St. Louis to Chicago. We made a couple stops along the way to pay our respects to some FLW structures, this being one.
