Mine would be a bit more soothing, albeit not as much fun. :)

I do have it available as a ringtone for .99 cents. People seem to love it!

Man, was I tired last night. The drive home was made even longer than usual because of the side trip we made to Felton on the way. That involved driving over the Santa Cruz Mountains over roads that made me nervous 20 years ago when I drove them somewhat regularly. The roads are twisty, but comfortable when taken at reasonable speeds. It becomes exponentially more stressful because of the idiots who drive at 20 miles over the posted speed limit. Then, they had a construction delay on Interstate 5 just north of Grapevine that tied us up for almost an hour.

This is the 3rd straight week we've made that trip, but this one really wore us out. It looks like we'll be going up at least twice more in the next couple weeks, We're helping a friend of my brother-in-law. Her husband died last year, and left her with a big, high-maintenance property to take care of, and she also has a condominium that she's renting out. Add the further complication that her parents are very elderly and both are showing early signs of dementia. She's trying to take care of them, but they're at the difficult stage; not far gone enough to be declared incompetent, but very forgetful and argumentative. The father just turned 90, and still drives. Yikes.

Anyway, this woman has an awful lot on her plate, so we're trying to help her with the real estate end of things. We're coordinating the refurbishing and renting of the condo, and trying to give her guidance on the parents' properties, one of which is a cabin in Felton. Unfortunately, until they agree to do something with it, it's going to continue to deteriorate. It's in a heavily forested area, and is infested with all sorts of vermin that have taken up residence in the place. The entire property is entirely overgrown with all sorts of native vegetation, so getting from the street to the front door involves a lot of ducking, bobbing, and weaving. The cabin is almost 90 years old, but has none of the charm you'd hope to find in an older property like that. IMHO, it's a teardown, but she will never be able to convince them of that. If ever there was a need for a bulldozer.......... Finally, the cabin is full of old stuff, mostly family memorabilia, but in reality, junk.

We've encouraged her to get to a lawyer and begin looking into having the parents put into an assisted living situation, and put their assets into a conservatorship. Sadly, I don't think she has the resolve to do that, so it looks like things are going to get a whole lot worse before they ever get any better. Nonetheless, it's not too soon to start documenting their bizarre, erratic behavior as it continues to deteriorate. Eventually, she will have to deal with them before they do something that creates real problems.

In the meanwhile, we can help her with her own situation, and we will do our best at that.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

You and Lois are good people.

I seem to recall the Grapvine being one of those areas in constant construction.

Are you sure you aren't thinking about the I15? I don't think the Grapevine is under construction all that often. It does get closed frequently due to snow and ice, though.

Good of you to help. I guess I can be happy about being poor as I get older. I won't have a trail of loose ends and too many properties and possessions to keep track of so that they drag me down.

It's good of you and Lois to do that.

As far as aging parents go, we're faced with the same issues with my MIL/FIL who are approaching 90 years of age. They've refused to move into an assisted living situation and now all the siblings are paying the price providing time and support. Watching this happen, and seeing the toll it's taken on my wife, has made me very thankful that my folks were wise enough to sell their house and move into an graduated assisted living facility about 5 years ago. They didn't like it all that much at first, but now they admit it was one of the best decisions they made.

Of course it didn't hurt that they sold their house at the peak of the housing market, just a few months before the bubble burst. :D

As people hit their 50's, the parental issues seem to begin. My mom is keen to move to graduated assistance when she needs it, and though still quite hale, she is already doing some planning, at least looking for options for when she would need them. Lisa's father was just the opposite, he balked at the assisted thing until Lisa and her siblings convinced him to do this, for his own sake, and for theirs too, as only one sister lives nearby and the burden it would become on her would be too much. She still has small children.

At least it is an eye opener for me. I hopefully will know and understand what is best for me, and my kids, when I need to make a move. That could be just a short 30 years away. :)
