says the guy with 62,000+ posts ;)

Did you get the storms down in VA/MD, Jon?

Well, just talking over your misdeeds in Mod Central accounts for more than a few, as does trying to help newcomers.

changed my site up a bit. please let me know what you guys think of the changes. changes are within the albums, the main page hasn't changed yet

outtamymindphoto.myftp.org

and as always the page might whine about the add at the bottom of the page. this is still temporary until i find a suitable domain.

I would turn on the borders for the pictures, helps to isolate them from the back ground color. As far as the background color goes, it seems a bit communist country grey.

You've got some nice work there, but I'm not a fan of either the way the display routine opens a white field the size of the previous picture viewed, then resizes it to match the new picture and finally gets around to putting the picture up, or of having to go back to the main gallery screen to look at the next photo. So, pretty much I think the annoyance factor would deter me from looking at many of the photos there.

ETA: Oh, yeah. I'd prefer to see the thumbnails reflect the shape of the image, or at least square. Sorta spoils the look of a portrait-orientation image to crop it to a landscape thumbnail and might cost you some views of some of the images. For instance (external link)

they should be turned off, but i'll double check them, if your referring to the ones with the black borders, those ones are hard coded into the image that i forgot to remove. that has been added to my list of changes to make, and any suggestions for a new color scheme?

thank you.

in regards to the image pop up, i don't think i can change that at all, i just started using jquery so i will look around and see if i can or not. you would think i would be able to. in regards to having to click back to view the next image that is on my list of things to do, to have the entire gallery be viewable once you select a photo.

and the reason the thumbnails all the same size is they weren't lining up correctly to be uniform throughout the site, i suppose i could use a fill border for the portrait ones. i do know what your talking about and actually totally forgot to fix that. thank you again for reminding me about that.

If you coded the gallery main pages yourself, you might try feeding the thumbnails into a table.

Are you running this on a dedicated server, or on your own machine? The blurb at the bottom suggests the latter; if so, a dedicated machine, or a regular server with faster drives and a true high speed connection to the Internet might make things come up faster, and improve the look of the image displays. Since the jquery clearly isn't preventing people from grabbing the image, you might even just want to go to some other routine altogether.

yes i've coded the website myself, the thumbnails are autopopulated to the page as per my php script

<?php

$images = glob('*.{jpg,jpeg,png,gif}', GLOB_BRACE);

foreach ($images as $image) {
if (file_exists("./thumbs/{$image}")){
echo "<a href=\"{$image}\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img src=\"thumbs/{$image}\" alt=\"{$image}\" /></a>";
}else{
echo "<a href=\"{$image}\"><img src=\"?img/{$image}\" alt=\"{$image}\" /></a>";
}
}

?>

the site for the time being is run off my own server at home, it will eventually make its way to a dedicated server but for now until i get everything sorted out its easier for me to keep it local. i for one can't wait to get rid of the no-ip add at the bottom of the page thats for sure.

as for people grabbing the image, i don't really care if they do or not as i'm not into photography to make money. i mean they don't have access to the raw's or the full sized (the images on the site are reduced to 800px on the longest side so really they wouldn't be able to do much with them.

also i'm still learning the new website languages so it may take me a bit longer to get everything correct

You could wrap a table definition around the php and put a couple of more loops (one for each row and a second for each cell in the row; the first would be variable; the second could be a fixed count unless you want to get fancy and size the table to fit the viewer's screen) inside the "foreach".

Didn't realize you could do that with php. I will look into that, will probably make it a lot easier and I wouldn't have to distort the images
