I'm working at project connecting sexuality and religion in a single frame and I'd like to make some research prior. The point is to show that followers of god also have sex organs like any other person, and enjoy sex.

I'd like to see what have been done in this direction already in various fields.

Any support/advice will be helpful,

thanks.

(i realize that this is not something very original, so you don't have to point this out).

What i'm asking for are names of photographers who already did this, if you know any. or painters.

Iam not too sure what you want from others.
Although as you stated your idea is not original, how
Will you get "religous people" to show this in a visual
medium? Typically religous people as you call them
are fairly to extremely conservetive.

If your goal is to state the obvious, then why do it?
Your project, clearly needs to more throughly thought
out and then presented.

The arts flourished during the Italian Renaissance under the watchful eye of the Catholic Church. Paintings and sculptures were filled with nudity. Unfortunately, people in modern times seem to forget that for most of history the Christian Church was not opposed to nudity. However, they were opposed to sensuality. For example, a woman can be clothed and sensual or she can be nude and not sensual at all. Sensuality is something that goes beyond the superficial. Generally, the Church approved of art that contained nudity based on form but opposed the sensual.

Excellent post!

And a brave project to want to take on.

Have you done much research into religion and sexuality?
And is there a wide variety of religion in your community?
I would start by approaching local representatives of religion, (e.g. churches, mosque's etc) introducing yourself and telling them about your project.
You will generally find they are quite open to the idea and many will be able to help with potential subjects etc.

Have you Calibrated your Monkey lately?

Now more than ever we need to be a community, working together and for each other, as photographers, as lovers of photography and as members of POTN.

I'm going to work with single model and i want to take this apparent contrast between sexuality and religion to the very extreme.

See Joel-Peter Witkin, Cindy Sherman, Ralph Gibson has a book called Infanta, Gauguins painting "Eve", Titians "The Rape of Europa" and "Sacred and Profane Love"

I'm not sure if any of these are exactly on the topic but certainly can be viewed for inspiration.

A book you might want to take a look at is "The Sexuality of Christ in Renaissance Art and in Modern Oblivion" by Leo Stienberg

You could imply sex with a stated religion, for example take a couple, a very content and happy with life looking couple, a husband and very obviously pregnant wife, have her wearing a cross, or Star of David and him holding a bible, make the rings obvious.

And go from there.

Now the sex while implied is still generally accepted as the most common method of causing pregnancy and the religion is clearly stated by the jewelry and the bible.

Just a thought.
