I'm only tending to put a few shots on Flickr per event lately so I thought I'd combine these two into one thread.
1-3 are from the Christmas Stages Rally 2011, January 2nd 2012 (because Croft ran out of "noisy days" for last year).
4-8 are from the Jack Frost Stages Rally 2012, 22nd January 2012.

#1 - Typical that the sharpest shot had a tyre in it.

#2 - Chris Anderson beat Paul Swift to second place

#3 - It rained on and off all day, this was during one of the more "on" phases.

#4 - I've wanted to try this position for a while after seeing some shots Simon Harrison took from there but hadn't got around to it until today. The light isn't ideal for it (I should have gone there on the morning) and I think it'd work better with a circuit race but at least I've tried it now.

#5 - Gritted teeth.

#6 - Some more smoke, though this time for the car rather than the tyres.

#7 - Playing around with longer shutter speeds, bulb mode (not sure if this was bulb or a set speed) and second curtain sync. At the same place as #5 but a little further on, different angle and at night.

#8 - Edit: Swapped the Metro shot for another Mk2.

Some nice stuff there Daz. The shot of Bird's focus works well, but is even better in the morning particularly with a low winter sun.

The wind was truly awful yesterday, and you've done well to achieve what you did. I ended up playing with my GH2. I might post some later this week if I'm feeling brave LOL.

Cheers,

Simon.

I actually went up there first thing but the trees on the island next to the hairpin were casting a shadow over complex so I went and did something else with the intention of going back when the sun had come up a bit more but I didn't get back there until the afternoon.
The wind was a nightmare on the morning, it seemed to be timing big gusts with the cars coming past. It didn't seem to be as bad on the afternoon but maybe I'd just gotten used to it trying to push me over by then.

The wind definitely died off as the day went on. Not pleasant at all as you say in the morning.

Simon.

Some nice shots Darren, despite the weather conditions which put me off from going.

Cheers. I put the camera away after a while of the rain at the Christmas Stages, I can't see the screen clearly though my rain sleeve so I resorted to using Av and hoping for the best which rather took the fun/challenge out of it.
It's always quite windy at Croft but the Jack Frost was remarkable. It was bright at least so you could up the shutter speeds and lean on continuous mode a little heavier than usual. I wrapped myself around a fence through the worst of it which helped.

Great photos, I especially like #2 and #8 best as the acentuate the movement of the car when cornering.
