Was walking past this very "Scandanavian" looking Lutheran church in Bartow, FL, last weekend (MLK Birthday, actually), and got invited in for a visit, and was offered the chance to take some photos.

IMAGE: http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab246/shinksma/Bok%20Tower%20-%20Lake%20Wales%20-%20Jan%202012/IMG_3427_1024.jpg
This shot isn't HDR, I just felt the thread was incomplete without an exterior shot.

I decided to try some bracketed photos based on the expectation that the stained glass would be overblown whenever I got a well-lit interior - and it was. Tried my first pseudo-HDR composition using GIMP (layers with grayscale layermask).

T3i, 10-22mm lens at 10mm, f/3.5, 1/25th sec combo with 1/100 sec.

Because the shot was handheld, I had to shift the layers a few pixels as my POV drifted during the bracketed shots, but fortunately didn't rotate.

A very nice church, friendly folks.

Ron, just hit the report post button when that happens and ignore it.

I like the interior shot too.

Lighten up that interior shot and back down the saturation.

It was a a parody of the OP's "A very nice church, friendly folks.". But you'd have to actually have a sense of humor to figure that out.

OK, sorry for triggering a bit of a fuss...back to the photo/comments.

Thanks for the tips, I will adjust and play later today/tonight. To be honest though, I was trying to match the relative darkness - it was fairly dim in there. Still, I'll see what I can do.

Shinksma, I think you should have that church interior as dark as you want it. Make it match the feeling it gave you when you were there. What others think really doesn't matter, it's YOUR image, say what YOU want to say with it.

Personally, and not that it matters, I like it the way you originally posted it. My only suggestion would be to level it, it is currently tilted up to the left a little.

I like the shots but I would like to see more of the beautiful wood detail that is hidden in the dark areas of the ceiling.

Here's an example of what I mean. I also straightened it out vertically a bit using photoshop.

Thanks for the input.

I did play with it a bit last night, and noticed that it isn't tilted up to the left, per se, but rather than the UWA distortion is more pronounced left vs right, probably due to me not-quite centering the scene when I took the photo.

Since it was late, I didn't feel like tweaking just then to see if I could fix it - I would probably just mess it up but be too tired to notice. Another day, perhaps...
