Joshua Tree sunrise

A couple of sunrise images taken a Joshua Tree this past Saturday when I was shooting with another POTN member, Cucamonga Al. I never saw the sun but the predawn light was amazing. The second and third image is facing away from the sunrise. In the second shot, the clouds had so much reds, even the ground was lit in a reddish tone. In almost no time, the sun rose high enough above the clouds that the reds had almost vanished for the third shot.

#1 is awesome.

#2, the clouds on right seem to be hyper-HDR'd or something. Maybe it's my eyes (lol)

#3 is pretty intense; bordering on looking like a painting!

It's trully amazing how fast a sunrise/sunset transitions. It doesn't give you much time to even adjust settings, much less change locations.

I like the first one best. Do you shoot bracketed bursts, or just single shots?

Thanks very much for your comments. The biggest problem with shooting bracketed shots for us was the high winds. Out of many I took, I felt only a couple were usuable. These are all 7 exposure brackets.

I'll take this opportunity to thank Cucamonga Al for being such a great guide to me at the Park. I had never been there before.

If you don't mind, to help give an idea what the skies were really like that morning, here's a single exposure (0Ev) right out of the camera with nothing done to it other than resizing for the web. For the hdr's, I did bring out more detail in the clouds.

You guys got some pretty amazing colour that morning. I like your take on the 3rd shot a lot.

The third one is my favorite as well. I don't mind the HDR really, it looks like artwork.
