I have a piece of dust or something on the rear element of my 85L II and read on a post here that you can take the rear mount off easily and clean it off

Has anyone done this and if so

1. How easy is it?
2. Will I mess up my warranty?

I'm sure it won't be showing up on my shots but it annoys me as I know it is there

Very lucky to have a lot of nice toys :)

It'll only come back, I wouldn't worry about. Dust is inevitable, especially in the 85L. Heck, lots of them come directly from Canon with special Canon-dust in them to start with. ;-)a

I haven't personally tried to remove the rear element, but unless it's affecting images, I wouldn't bother.

Man, they're so full of it. A single speck of dust will destroy all of your images!!!

Like I said I am confident it won't be showing in my shots especially as I tend to shoot with it wide open. I am just paranoid about all my toys being perfect. You should see how much time I spend messing about cleaning my car!!!

On my 17 40 you could actually see dust on the rear element on pictures when shooting at f16 but that was on the outside so cleaned off no worries

I will just live with it I think. Annoying though on a 6 week old lens

Ah don't worry about mine has the same. I would every lens you own has a speck of dust, it is just what happens. And what ever you do, dont go taking apart the 85. You will regret it.
