The local guys at the Apple store aren't clear, I guess (or my comprehension skills are weak...which is actually probably the case).

Please check out this link.

Do I have to have Wi-fi for wireless mirroring using the Ipad2 and Apple TV?

I can't tell.

Thanks.

Thank you. bw!

Yes you have to be on the same wi-fi network. Going over 3G will not work.

I don't have Apple TV, but I don't think it has 3G in it.

I think you only need the apple tv and the ipad2. I don't think you have to have wi-fi for them to work together, but if you do have wi-fi it's easier.

That's what I'm trying to figure out, because my classroom doesn't have wi-fi. I suppose I could hook it up myself (wi-fi) using a router from the ethernet.

Thank you. bw!

Yes. It is necessary to have a wireless network in order to mirror the iPad2 to your HdTv with ATV2. It is not possible without a router.

Yes, you need to have a wireless network that both the Apple TV and the iPad/iPhone is connected to.

For clarity, I've read that you can actually use Bluetooth, but not sure that it works very well and I have not personally tried it.

It can only be done with additional equment that converts the signal so it can be read by the ATV....since the ATV is not Bluetooth compatible. Redundancy....

Or, get the HDMI adapter cable (the Apple one fro $40 not a knock off), jail break your iPad (which it should be anyway) and install the Cydia app DisplayOut and you can mirror via HDMI anything you like.

Or, sell that iPad 1 (they hold their value extremely well as does all Apple products) and pay the extra $150 or so for a new iPad 2 and do the Apple TV 2 AirPlay mirroring. I went this route, but used to do my first suggestion too.
