at least it would be a full stop faster than the non-L 50mm.

I would rather spend on Noctilux 50/0.95 if money is no issue.

It would likely not be that sharp at f1.8 and quite soft at f4 and beyond, very heavy and 50mm (my least favorite FL), so no, not for $1000.

No, and not for money reasons, but because the extra light isn't being collected by current sensors. ISO is being silently boosted to compensate instead. Most people don't know about this.

That is a complex argument, and worth a discussion thread alone. That cannot be entirely true, because otherwise you would not see any difference between -say- a f/1.2 and a f/1.0 shot.

But indeed the difference is quite visible, and I think people are more interested in the way such lens will render rather than the extra speed gain (which may be less than expected, for different reasons).

Or, if money is an issue, the announced SLR Magic HyperPrime T/0.95 ;)
But you still would need a mirrorless camera... despite the "SLR" in the name of the company... And a Leica M to shoot it full frame (not exactly cheap :)).

I looked that up and read a review with samples by Steve Hoff.

Completely amazing lens. And worth more than one of my cars.

Yup. I would pick it up in my hover car and take it home to shoot my naked supermodel wife with it on the deck of my 40,000 sq foot beach house in the Bahamas. Yep.

I'd get one for $2,500, probably... although i'm no where NEAR inclined to drop $1600 on the 1.2.... Maybe I wouldn't. I'd like to think that I would :)
