My current setup is a 24-105L, 70-200 IS II and 50 1.8 II. I really like the FOV of the 50 and I use it quite a bit so I really would like to upgrade for build quality, focus and faster aperture. I shoot 90% portraits and, starting this summer, weddings, but I also enjoy landscapes, wildlife and general photography.

I am considering, as the title states, selling the 24-105L to get the Tokina 16-28 2.8 and the Sigma 50 1.4. I really think I want something wider than 24, especially on crop, and I want the Sigma 50 1.4. I have only a couple hundred to add on top of what I get from the 24-105L and I can get a really good price on the Tokina.

My question is do you guys think this would be a good move or will I miss the versatility of the 24-105l for weddings and walkaround/travel purposes?

Also I will be getting a backup body in the near future so I am not factoring that into this decision.

I use the 24-105 as a general purpose lens - including weddings and find that it is a versatile lens. Based on your proposal you would have only a 50mm lens between 28 and 70mm. Can you live with that? The best way to try it is to "fix" your lens at 50mm for some photography and see how it works for you. If you can live with it, go for your proposal. If you are continually changing the focal length, stay with your current setup and save some more for the wide angle.

Equipment list - According to the wife - "how many more lenses do you need? Yet another camera?" ???

Got a good price on a BNIB Sigma 50 1.4 so I bought it and now I am going to keep the 24-105L and save up for the wide angle zoom.

Thanks for the advice
