I don't know what the copyright laws in the UK are but if I were you I would be finding out very soon.

Check the t&c's for the competition, they' usually have an entrant sign away any rights to the image, your model would have signed to say this was OK. You can go ask for retrospective credit, but to push for more than that will probably do you more harm than good.

If the organisation have no rights to the picture they'll likely disqualify your model and then you're in a worse place.
Your best option is to get it built into your marketing and make something from it rather than worry about what might have been. Blog it, Facebook it, print it large and show it. Take pride in the success rather than spoiling it for everyone.

Technically it depends on the basis that you supplied the photos to your model. Did your contract state that you retained copyright - and outlined how the images that you provided might be used?

Having said that, I agree with Phil - use it to your advantage - maybe show their artwork in your portfolio?

Sounds like you need to have a word with your model ... explain how these things work ...

looks like she will have her face plastered all over products on high street shelves as part of her cover girl win. I though of approaching the company with the intention of offering my services as the Tog that shot loads of beauty with her in the first place. i have a lot more beauty images of her...

CosmoKid, how do you figure I'm Alex Constandinou?!

I clicked the link and 3/4 down was a reply by Alex Constandinou that says something like "how about the photographer getting some of the credit?" :)

if not, you have some loyal friends ;)

There is a trick to it under US law - Model may not give the rights to image she doesn't have.
Then there is UCC, fine print and that's where lawyers turn on the meter.

Thanks Eric, seemed to be the only way to make something of this without getting Maria disqualified!
