Any advice on the best printer <£200 for colour and a fair bit of B&W?

How about one of the new Pixma range of printers from Canon? I got one a couple of weeks a go and am so far very pleased with it :)

If you're looking at the Pixma range take a look here:

Canon will print one of your photos on the printer of your choice and post it to you.

I was on a smaller budget and compared the Pixma 2200 and the Epson R220 which were the same price. The Epson won by a huge margin. My monitor is sRGB calibrated and the prints from the Epson match perfectly.

hmmm...that site looks useful for comparisons, although they probably only ship one print to one address I would assume. Anyone tried it?

Yes, I tried it, as I was interested in a Pixma 8500. Sent them a 3MP file from my 300d, sized to A4 at 250 dpi, and they sent me back a 6x4 print! What a waste of time.

The canon site (and the epson site) makes it clear that the print is 6 by 4.

I tried with the PIXMA iP5200 and got the most stunning result - infinitely better than my old epson 870 and better than Photobox.

I am in the process of having epson print on the 220 and 800 for me.

Best Wishes

Now got the results from epson with a R220 and a R800.

The R220 lived up to its modest price tag and did a very poor job on saturated red and grey and some banding in the sky plus a slight pink cast.

The R800 was much better but still left a lot to be desired in the saturated reds.

The Pixma iP5200 is far and away the best.

What a pity I still have a drawer full of epson paper.

Best wishes

You can get one print from each printer to a single address so you can compare them
