Hmmm... very interested. If this can solve some of the flaring and CA issues, my 10-22 might be history. :D

July release though.

Sign me up. Just complained about 11-16 flare issue in another thread and is the reason I won't buy.

Now - if they would also produce a 1.4 prime in the 15 to 20 mm range for EFS....

While we are at it - yo Canon - where is your new 50 1.4 and 85 1.4?

7D | Canon EF-S 17-55 2.8 | Sigma EF-S 30 1.4 | Canon 85 1.8 | Canon 135 2.0 L | 430EX | TT Speed Demon | Sony RX100

Too bad it won't be released for Canon until July...one of my friends was looking for a UWA for an upcoming Europe trip this summer...

This lens was beyond-popular. It was perpetually sold out until recently. I'm very surprised that they're already updating this lens. It's as close to flawless as an UWA lens gets

It's still plenty usable. From 13-16mm on a 1D, and as a 16mm prime on a 1Ds/5D... without vignetting.

I agree. Boring update.

Wake me up when they offer a stabilized lens with ultrasonic motor.

Yeah.. a great bridge between FF/APS-H/APS-C..unlike some others. The 10-22, unless you want to mod it, and then u still run the risk of hitting the mirror, if you aren't careful with your fl settings.

Really??

If there isn't much wrong with the lens, how can an update (and hopefully address any flaws that there are) and likely minimal price differennce, be a problem? IS on a 11-16 is just a pipe dream.. they won't put it on 50/35/24mm primes, it would serve as much use on an 11-16 f/2.8.

The flare you get if there is any type of light source in the frame is a significant flaw. It also has an extremely small range for a zoom (45%). Many ignore this for the 2.8 aperture, but many don't and choose Sigma or Canon instead.

I guess they can't change the focal length without a complete redesign, but if they fix the flare issue this will probably become the clear #1 UWA choice. Smart move IMHO, glad they recognized the issue with the current lens and (hopefully) fixed it.

Actually, wake me up when they come up with a 12-24 f/2.8 for full frame.

I agree with you jrbdmb. The 11-16 flares freely, easily, with happily. Its a major flaw, so updating it to correct that makes sense.
