Limpkin and Apple Snails

Limpkin at the Viera Wetlands - They survive almost exclusively on a diet of Apple Snails.

If a freshwater lake or marsh does not have a large supply of Apple Snails, you are not going to see a Linpkin there.

Luckily the Viera Wetlands has lots of Apple Snails for the Limpkin to feed on.

Nice shots, Ira. Am hoping our Limpkins show up here again this year. There's usually one at Corkscrew and another at Eagle Lakes. The latter had a nest there last year. When the little ones fledged, there were Apple Snail shells everywhere!

Love `em Ira...very nicely executed captures.
It's amazing to me how dexterous they can be with such a large beak.
