New Canon 5D mkIII just got spec'd in at 7.5 fps at 22meg pixels. This could be very nice new rig for the water.

What makes it nice for the water? Is it waterproof?

Yes. The glorious radiant aura that surrounds it will not only awe your friends, but suppress water's ability to get withing several inches of the camera. But don't drop it in the ocean, it'll just sink to the bottom!

I"m guessing with a name like aqua tech. that he does something water/boat related. Saying that it would be great for the water is like a birder saying it's will be great for birds.
I'm wondering what rumor site he read it on

Off the top of my head these are the guys who listed body armour for a Canon 1Ds4 last summer. I think they do it to attract traffic to their website.

Aquatech makes some of the best waterhousings available. A lot of surf photographers use their equipment and a 5D MKIII that shoots 7.5 fps would be great for that type of work.

AquaTech - Info direct from canon and that is as good as the rumors get for us. Some big changes to the 5D overall. Should be a fantastic new camera.

We'll see if those two stats leaked end up being confirmed :).

7.5fps/22mpx/fullframe at a relatively decent price (relative to the 1Dx)...sounds like the right trail for me, so far!

Great way to increase facebook fans. Maybe i should "spec out the 5D3", and say "directly from Canon rumor" as well :)

Really curious where canon is going with this if its true. I have heard rumors that the AF system will be pro quality and to me that makes the 1Dx a pretty tough sell especially if the 22mp sensor is any kind of an improvement over the old one. Either the rumors are wrong, or the price is going to be 3500.

Based on past performance, I'm assuming the rumors are wrong.

Totally agree. The 5D series has never had a top-of-the-line focusing system. Skimping in this area gives people a reason to upgrade.

My realistic specslist for the 5D mkIII:

- 24mpx FF sensor delivering slightly better DR and one-stop better high-ISO performance, less low-ISO noise, compared to the mkII, thanks to a single DIGIC 5+
- new, simple but very accurate, 9 or 13 all cross-type points autofocus system with better spread arranged more towards the rule-of-thirds grid
- 6 fps with the new DIGIC 5+
- 100% viewfinder coverage
- crop mode function similar to Noinks
- built-in ND filters function
- faster operation, less shutter lag etc.
- basic lens correction tool like PT lens in-camera
- two CF slots
- better video functions, low-light video mode optimized for high-ISO video, crop video function, video "picture styles", file compression options, 4:2:2, less rolling shutter issues, better audio functions, input level adjustment, stereo mic
- Ethernet connection a la 1Dx
- same screen as the 1Dx
- in-camera RAW processing, HDR etc.
- 7D style build, weather sealing and controls, with backlit buttons as the 1Dx
- built-in GPS module
- some kind of special functions grip (with built-in wireless flash control, GPS module (if not in-body, an in-body module would make more sense), wifi module?)
- not sure about the price (hopefully below $4000?)

I also think it's quite possible they release an astonishing new EF 24-70mm f/2.8 IS with this camera, no bigger or heavier than the current model, which will cost an arm and a leg but will be worth its price tag.
Some new video-oriented accessories might be launched along with this body as well.

Tell me what you think, what would you agree/disagree with and why!

Cheers,
Al

The problem with this is if the D800 has an even better AF as it did last generation but can do the video that it couldn't previously. It'll be a 5D MKII killer, especially if it gets the MP bump. I know at that point I'll be seriously thinking bout jumping ship. We'll have to see where the future brings us though.
