This is going around certain photog circles and I thought I'd share. :)

Originally posted on Craigslist (external link)

WHY is finding an amazing wedding photographer so difficult? :/

I am a Bride who is getting married this summer and have yet to find a decently priced, exceptional, amazingly talented, fun photographer.

WHY because the word "WEDDING" is involved photographers think they can change you $ 3,000.00 for wedding photos? Oh, because no bride is going to go without so they are going to pay it, because they HAVE to. They are ripping people off for all they have! Why when you want to get married it costs you AT LEAST 15 grand after all is said-and-done? Its such CRAP!! I love all you $ 3,000.00 photographers out there but i think your prices are WACK. All your doing is hanging out at a wedding taking tons of photos and editing them.. and thats owrth 3 GRAND!!! You're making so much money its crazy. I just wish people would be more realistic. I mean the "average" persons salary for 1 freaking month is somewhere around 3 grand. (Thats making 19$ an hour) So you're going to take someones WHOLE MONTH paycheck for one flippen day of photos? Just because you CAN!!?????? So that maybe they will not be able to feed themselves or pay any other bills they have, right? It makes me SICK!

I know im speaking for more than just myself right now. Alot of brides out there think the same thing. & I bet all you fancy photographers wont even read this. oh-well.
Maybe there are cheaper photographers that will read this and LOVE to take my photos :)

WOW!

This is someone def. shopping a photog by price and not looking at the whole picture. (No pun intended)

She's probably mad that she spent 3K on a dress and can't afford a top notch wedding photographer!

Pretending no troll:

Did she hesitate to take a compressed lump of coal artificially priced at three months of her fiance's salary? Nope.

I must say I do enjoy the fact that the "livid" (read: emotional) responses are all from female photographers. IMHO it's nothing to get upset about really. Heck even I am cheap about some things.

I gotta wonder why some people are getting so worked up about this. Those who have never run a business have no idea what it takes to run a business. It's that simple. The same people who complain about $3,000 wedding photogs will also complain about the plumber who charges $60 to come and fix your toilet, or the barber (excuse me. Hair Sylist) that charges $20 to spend twenty minutes cutting your hair. (Let's see... three haircuts an hour at $20... gee, she's making $60 an hour and ripping me off!

The bride is obviously not seeing the value of the deliverable.

If you have to explain that you have to pay for this or buy that to do this.... well that's just excuses. Does Porsche ever tell you how much they have to pay for their worker's health plan or lawyers to do patents on their brochures? Hmm....

I personally find it rather amusing how many photographers feel it necessary to respond to people like that... you don't seem to find that many people in other industries going to such lengths to justify their costs/profession.

It would be refreshing if a photographer replied with "I charge $10,000 because I am awesome... get over it".
