It is the fastest image editing application on the market, regardless of platform. It is not as feature-rich relative to Photoshop and it cannot save 16-bit files. I am happy with it, but almost all of my editing in Aperture and the Nik plug-ins.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I know this is an old thread but, a question....

Pixelmator has dropped in price from $60 to $15. Is the older version that much different? Or rather, is the new version the same as the older one?

It's only gotten better since then. Current version 2.2 was released last week. The price dropped right around the time the Mac App Store opened.

It's a great tool. It has layers, but not adjustment layers. It can't save 16 bit TIFF files. If you can live without those two things, it's an excellent alternative to Photoshop. It's especially a great alternative to Photoshop Express since that doesn't save 16 bit TIFF files either.

Photoshop Elements can save 16-bit TIFFs but it has very limited editing for such files. Pixelmator, on the other hand, cannot do anything with 16-bit files other than open them. Once opened, they are converted to 8-bit. This is a serious limitation of Pixelmator (although it is the fastest bit-level editor available).

Thanks Mark and Tony,
Back to the testing then. The interface put me off a bit but I can see it is quite capable under neath the covers. And at $15 it's hardly worth worrying about price.

I've just decided not to upgrade my CS5 because of the new price structures. I use LR for most of my work and CS5 will be usable for years but a Mac editor would be nice to have.
