Hey folks. Forum member snyderman gave me some advice on my last set of basketball pictures about trying not to sit directly under the basket, but rather sit closer to the corners of the court so as to try and get some of the crowd in the background. Unfortunately, our local high school team is not really supported very well by the student body. The stands are pretty empty. I thought it was worth a try to help "spice up" the background. So that's what I did at Tuesday night's basketball game. Here are some of the pics from JV and Varsity. As a note, the athletic director wasn't at the game and there was one bank of lights not turned on. No one knew where the light switch was for those lights and I think it changed the look of these pics from my previous ones. Let me know what you think about the pictures. Thanks. Sigma 70-200 f2.8, 1/640, ISO3200.

Like the angles, man! ;)

And boy, were you right ... WAY to many fans dressed as empty seats. That is so sad that the kids don't support the team and pack that gym. It looks like a nice facility!

It appears you're getting pretty good results now. Are you shooting at 1/640 on the shutter? Some appear to have a bit of motion blur like on shots 2-4.

Other than that, beautiful color and saturation. Looks really good! If I helped in some small way, happy to oblige!

Dave, I'm shooting 1/640 on the shutter. It's probably user error causing that motion blur. Still learning this shooting sports thing. I appreciate any and all advice, critiques given. It is too bad about the students not supporting their team, but I do think these pictures look better with at least some crowd in the background. :) Thanks for the tip. I'll try it again tonight at the girls game.
