Who else can I try?
Looked at JB Hifi, the seem to have only std stuff and kit lenses..

Hmm...so you had a bad experience at Teds. That's a bit unusual in my experience. In Adelaide, they're usually pretty good.
Having said that, I wouldn't consider buying from somewhere like JB's or Hardly Normal - cameras are not their specialty.
Even though Teds was an epic fail, stick to buying through a dedicated camera store.

I purchased the Tamron 17-55 2.8 from somewhere in HongKong on Ebay Friday. Im in Alabama, USA..It arrived Yesterday! has a one year warranty, and works PERFECT!. I love it. Probably one of my favorite lenses I have used so far. I love the 2.8 on a zoom [the first zoom Ive purchased under f 3.5] It makes such smooth photos.

You defiantly get what you pay for... I was also looking at Tamron / Sigma, but decided to go with Canon..

This is probably the most stupid thing i've ever heard. You should march into Ted's tomorrow ask to speak to the manager and let them know they have hired idiotic, ignorant, uninformed staff who are providing useless, misguided advice. Cameras direct is the ticket. Do Not buy from bricks and mortar retailers in Australia they add a MASSIVE mark up.
