Just took a few pics as it's quite clear here in England for a change and I think I have caught my first shooting star!? ( I was back indoors briefly and missed whatever it was ) It was taken just before midnight.... You don't get iridium flares much after a couple of hours after sun down do you? Any ideas greatly rec'd!

how long were your exposures? Is this a single frame or stack? It does not look like meteors normally do. Does not look like a plane, possibly a satellite. Definitely a satellite if it's in more than one frame

Nice capture :)

I'd be inclined to think it was an iridium flare due to the shape of it (and by that I mean the way it fades in and fades out).

Just 1 frame 30 seconds iso 1600 f3.5.

Took only 15 shots and this is the only one that has anything different in?

Can you get iridium flares 8 hours after sunset? I'm sure I read somewhere only an hour or two before sunrise or after sunset. I have also read not to believe everything you read.

That looks like a shooting star/meteor to me. For the record, I'm almost positive that this was an Iridium 57 flare:

The sun shining off of the satellite "Iridium 57". There's a network of satellites that orbit the earth that are used for communications (think "Iridium brand satellite phone"), and sometimes, the sun will reflect off of them when the pass by.

After I captured that image, I went and did some research about what was passing through that part of the sky at that particular time, and if memory serves me right, "Iridium 57" had an orbit path that would have been right around there at that time.

Yea thanks, I looked that up as well. I've see many satellites and probably more than my share of the Iridium too that I didn't know what they were .If these are the ones I'm thinking about they can be really, really bright . I'll have to now Google so I can differentiate between the various objects, just so I know.
