I've been playing around with the Lightroom 4 Beta version and am pretty impressed and am probably going to buy it when it is officially released.

I have one question though. I live in Japan and my wife is Japanese and she is interested in Lightroom too. I see it is possible to install Lightroom on 2 computers (but you can't use them at the same time, right?).

So...........let's say I buy an English version online (this is possible on Adobe's Japanese site, they offer both English and Japanese downloads although it's quite a bit more expensive than in the USA) and get my serial number. Could my wife then download the Japanese version and use the same serial number?

For ¥33000 or approx $450 (the current cost of Lightroom 3) I'd hope that would be the case, no way can I afford to purchase it twice.

In ytour copy of Lightroom go to Edit/Preferences, in the General tab, and try changing the Language to Japanese, and see how it works for her.

But I do believe that if you do a fresh install on the second computer you could pick Japanese when doing the install.

Thanks for the reply Tony.

In the preferences section of Lightroom 3 there is no place to change the language that I can see**.

I'm just curious if I buy a licence key-would that only be for the English version? Oh and I have a Mac and she has a PC just to complicate matters further.

Edited to add: **oh I see there is one such language tab in Lightroom 4 Beta, wonder if that will be in the final version?

I'm sure this really doesnt help you out, or awnser your question, but thought I'd share........My wife got me a copy of Lightroom 2, many years ago from her family in Peru in a market for $5, was a pirated copy obviously (but it was the though that counts)..........it was in spanish, and we had no way to change the language, tried everything. I have since purchased a legal copy of LR3!!! Not sure if they will allow to change the language at will in LR4, or like you said, your product key might only be for a single language in the final product

Thanks for the reply Dustman.

I have LR3 on my Mac, I just created a user account for my wife (with Japanese as the default OS language) and when I logged into that and launched LR3 the menus came up in Japanese. Maybe it is OK then.............

In LR 3.6 (an in any other V3.x I can remember) you can set the language in the Edit -> Preferences in the General Tab (very top). Standard is Automatic that sets the language to the one defined on the computer.

Is that on a Mac or PC? On my mac I can't see anything about languages in the preferences, it seems to take its cue from the OS language (of course Mac OSX makes it easy to change languages).

It looks like it will be OK to install on 2 computers and then we can change the language to Japanese on the second one (I hope). Elements can't do this but Lightroom can.........

That's good, I'd want to install it on my Mac first and then on the wife's Windows 7 Laptop after that.

for the us dvd version at least, lr3 serial will work on both osx and windows simultaneously without problems. of course, i am not an attorney of japanese software licensing and this should not be taken as legal advice.

Thanks for the reply. It should be OK as it appears straightforward to change the language once it's installed.
