Do you mind briefly describing your blending process? I have not tried to manually blend an HDR yet, but with results like that I will. I have always used the PS Merge to HDR function and then tweaked the parameters. Do you just layer the exposures and then paint layer masks with various amounts of grey?

heldGaze, sorry for the slow response, I just saw this tonight. Manual exposure blending is done with layer masks. There are a number of ways how to mask, each with pro’s and con’s and depending on your photo some will work better than others. Even in the same photo, I will often choose more than one method to get the desired effect for different parts of the photo. It’s hard to briefly explain any of this, but I advise anyone starting out to do a Google search on Exposure Blending, luminosity masks and selection methods in PS and start watching video’s on how it’s done to get started. Hope that helps.

I like the image, but the tree on the right seems OOF. HDR artifact perhaps? You might want to clean that up if possible before showing the client.

Otherwise - good job!

Thanks medd63. Not OOF or artifacts, but wind. I guess it doesn't bother me as much as it does you, but I appreciate the comment.

I think it must've been 3-4 months since it's rained in LA. This was taken during the Santa Clarita brush fire
