Manual exposure blending is done with layer masks. There are a number of ways how to mask, each with pro’s and con’s and depending on your photo some will work better than others. Even in the same photo, I will often choose more than one method to get the desired effect for different parts of the photo. It’s hard to briefly explain any of this, but I advise anyone starting out to do a Google search on Exposure Blending, luminosity masks and selection methods in PS and start watching video’s on how it’s done to get started.
