Misty winter morning

This shot is not nearly as good as most shown on this site, but I was very pleased with the almost surreal light that morning and could not help but take advantage of it.

Comments and criticism are always welcome.

I am guessing the muted colors of the image are due to the condition you mentioned. I do like the image a lot and would not mind seeing a larger version.

Thank you, Pierre, you are absolutely correct. But now I am stumped--how can I post a larger version on here? I always seem to run into "space" problems…

I beg to differ. Your photo is at least as good as most shown on this site. I like the unusual overall monochromatic greenish hue. And the composition is neatly layered and uncluttered. It's actually very good thanks to it's simplicity. Good job.

I see you're in Whitehorse. I'm actually coming up there in a couple weeks to shoot some scenes. What's it like there right now?

Thank you, David--you are too kin. Mr. Green, it was not so bad yesterday, about -12 degrees Celsius and mostly cloudy. This morning we were down again to -22 degrees Celsius but had some sun. Thus far, winter has brought more snow than usual, and the temps have been up and down, which is a bit strange for us. If you watch Global Vancouver, you can see fairly accurate weather forecasts for Whitehorse.

I'll be hard at work in a couple of weeks, but drop me an e-mail before you come up--perhaps, if I am in town, we can get together for a coffee.

Nice scene, though I feel a longer focal length was needed. To get away from the ground clutter and get less of the clouds above the mountain. I'd show you what I'm talking about but you don't allow image editing (I don't either so no harm done.)

Robert, since you asked, go ahead and alter the photo to show what you have in mind. Thanks for the advice.

I also did a little color correction since the image seems a bit on the green side. I also like how the tree tops gradually get taller from left to right leading my eye upwards. And I also did a 1.9 degree rotation since it seems the trees were leaning out of plumb.

I like it and wish I could take images like that. With practice, practice, practice and moving somewhere that has mountains maybe I can.

The trees were out of plumb, as you call it, because there is a lot of permafrost up here, and that makes them lean quite often… Hoosier Writer, it does take practice but also a little luck, since light like this does not present itself often. I love the shot! It definitely fits this forum. Very nice work there Julius!

Don't underestimate your latest version because it's beautiful. The lighting is very painterly and soft and reminds me of classic oil paintings I see in meseums and galleries.
