It is a sister in the same family. a Black Widow is a Latrodectus mactans and the Brown Widow is a Latrodectus geometricus. The venom is virtually identical while the behavior is slightly different. The Browns don't defend their web, thus making them much safer to keep around. I still have a print out from the poison control center for treatment if I ever need to "run" to the ER...

very cool pet . love spiders . i used to keep tarantulas , and at 1 point had over 70 of them . never had anything as cool as this though . in the uk we would need a special licence/ insurance to keep a venomous species

HAHA...um...yeah. The athorities sort of don't know I have her. Or that I transported her on a plane across four states. Or that I brought her to a place she's not indigenous to...

I have no idea really what kind of trouble this would create when a resolution would just be to step on her.
