Toyota's the only thing I'd feel safe in 'out there'. It's a dinky car but of course (being a girl) I loved the colour of the Desert Cruiser (or whatever it was called). It looked like a large latte with whipped cream on top - with groovy rear doors that open outward like a black cab.
On the tarmac it took three days to get from 0-60 and was very thirsty but struth, on the dirt it got very happy (as did Jonathan).
I've come to the conclusion that this 'interest in cars' is a male problem. One see's it develop in small boys with their wire model cars, and it never really goes away. Why should men find cars so interesting? A car is no more than a machine, like a washing machine or an iron. But men show no interest in these. You never see men standing around talking about washing machines.
Cindy all the great cars have character something that puts a smile on your face weather it's like the original Mini pin sharpe handling and your bum inches off the deck so it's like driving a go kart or like the E Type surely the most beautiful car ever made plus men do like the sound and speed of the car plus the freedom it gives you.
Then I won't - every motoring article written is automatically checked for Clarkson references - it's almost like spell checking!
I do like the guy but damn, he makes writing hard! It's not from one of his columns it was from his Motor World series but I'm sure I heard much the same when I was out there and in the outback you only ever saw Land Cruisers never a Land Rover or Range Rover.

Is that model actually made in SA just for that market???
But boy was that greenhouse steamy ~ I have chucked a fresh Silca Gell pack into the camera bag as a precaution so suck any extra moisture up that may still be hanging around!!!
