Ah its the mobo, big burn mark in the tracks next to the RAM and one of the tracks is knackered, tried to peel the label when it was burnt and the track lifted up, so the thing is do I try and get a replacement mobo and hope that the RAM,CPU and GFX are all OK?

Difficult decision maybe as this could be road to rebuild hell???

But as far as I could tell most LGA775 boards still on the market are G chipped mATX as per this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk …d=701&catid=5&subcat=1490 (external link) and as noted the supply of LGA775 CPU's is dying???

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

I don't even know what that means?! My CPU is Q6600.

I ran up the PC again but not sure if the CPU was getting power as the bottom of the heat sink was cold or if its knackered.

What does my iPad need then?

Happy Birthday Matt!

Hope you enjoy the iPad!

Bet you can't put images onto a CF card directly from the ipad (Ipad to CF card) in case you wanted to make copies for backing up purposes! If you find a way, pls show me, but, the process must not involve a computer!

Have fun with the new toy.

Evening all, sorry to read bout your computer troubles Ian. I hope you get it sorted without any losses.

Good news about the kittie - did you not find who owned her then, that's a shame, although perhaps she's fallen on her paws with you guys?!

Dan well done, good footie photos, looks like you had good weather too.

I had a lovely old lurcher here on Friday for pics

I ran up the PC again but not sure if the CPU was getting power as the bottom of the heat sink was cold or if its knackered.

Sorry to not expand ~ sometimes even with "just enough knowledge to be dangerous......" geek head on I forget others do not 'get it'

LGA775 was AFAIK the first generation of the new Intel chips to use the Landed Grid Array i.e. it had no pins but the socket in which it was mounted had the "pins" (actually a bed of little spring contacts).

My ref to G chipped refers to that the available boards have onboard graphics hence the "G" (you can install a graphics card and disable in the BIOS the onboard one) whereas your "P" board is deemed performance and has no onboard graphics chipset.

The mATX refers to the form factor and this being the micro ATX i.e. it is a slightly cutdown ATX board with fewer expansion sockets ;)

You could work on the basis of picking a suitable LGA775 board such as the one I linked to and try the parts you have salvaged and if 'no go' then sell it on eBay??? But IMO the G chipped boards are not as good a perfomers as the "P" boards. So if you do get it running again you might find it limiting especially if you only end up with the Dual core Celeron if your Q6600 is fried???

I hope that has helped ~ maybe :)

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

I look forward to seeing her in all her glory when you can post :D

@ Penel ~ like all of them. The B&W of the old Lurcher is good; Our Husky Friend is standout :D ; Is Moo Moo "pointing" as her head shape does not make me think of a Pointer??? But what do I know! ; And as silver & blue looks like s/he had their teeth brushed well for the photographs :)

:) glad to try to help. FWIW I rate Gigabyte boards the last build and this ones are Gigabyte based. If SSD was cheaper when I built this I would have gone that route ;) The spec looks top flight but not OOT with bleeding edge parts.

Again FWIW make sure to install fans to cool the HDD's :D

Right off to see the Gigabyte forum for any lowdoan of the board ;)
