Sky lock the details on to there routers so you can't get them from sky and just add them.. You can Google the correct details that might work, I know there is a way of extracting the setting from the Sky box..

We have extracted the settings from the router once upon a time but I've forgotten how. Google should help.
That said, it won't help Mike as he needs the router first in order to hack it.

AFAIK, Sky used to tie the router MAC address in with the authentication so this may not be an option. Just something to keep in mind if you do have your username/pwd but can't get it to work.

It appears you are correct chaps - what a ****ty set up! Another good reason not to use Sky ;)

This link has all the stuff you need to know. Looks like a decent forum too if you are a Sky customer...

Nope, he'll need the new router as the settings etc are hard wired into the new router. Once its arrived, its possible to hack to a new router but until then...

That would be the link. Haven't been on there for a while but it is a good source of info.

Don't you have an old router you could use?

Yes, but as mentioned, I don't know what to do with it! They were supposed to ring me within 24 hours of my hour long rant down the phone at them...that was on Saturday at about 10.30am...still waiting for the phone call!

Yeah, when I got Sky broadband, I asked them whether I could use my old and trusted modem. They just told me no, I have to use theirs.

Their wireless router has a pretty weak WiFi signal, so I just bought a separate WAP box and linked the two up. Been happy since then.

Sky are either fantastic or utter sh**e!! Our router died, I called them at 6pm and a new one arrived the next day!!

Can anyone shed some light on to my problem of getting 1and1 e-mail to work on my iPad.. I have followed there FAQ on the correct procedure and settings which are here: http://faq.1and1.com …_up_email_clients/30.html (external link)

When I click the final step where it should verify the details and be setup I just get this message:

The user name or password for "imap.1and1.com" is incorrect.

Argh.. Help!!

As DrD mentioned, without the Sky router, you can't extract the username and passowrd and so cannot configure an alternative one.

To be honest, I've had problems with these comedians on almost every occassion I have had to deal with them. I eventually resorted to emailing their Chief Executive - eremy.darroch@bskyb.com (external link) - if you are interested ;) You will probably get a response from Kate Dalgliesh but at least you will get a response.

Do you have this setup on a computer somewhere? If so, go check the settings that that is using. Sounds dumb but some ISP/Hosts have different mail credentials to their portal logins. If the username is the same as you used (you wont be able to see the password in plain txt), delete the password and type in the one you were using on the iPad. If this still gets your email, then the iPad has an issue, if it does not, then the password is not correct. Do not do this if the username was different. Fix that first on the iPad.

What server ports are you using? Also, try using auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk for the outgoing one...

Ok, looking at the server settings on Thunderbird it uses this: imap.1und1.de

I'll change it over once I'm back from picking up the wife and see if that helps at all?! :D
