Ok, looking at the server settings on Thunderbird it uses this: imap.1und1.de

I'll change it over once I'm back from picking up the wife and see if that helps at all?! :D

Don't change it in Thunderbird - do it on the iPad ;) They are completely different servers.

imap.1and1.com = IP address 74.208.5.6
imap.1und1.de = IP address 212.227.15.188

morning all, hope you all had a great weekend, love the SA pics Jonathan, I toured around OZ for a year in a Toyota camper van never let me down once.

Love the blue eye doggie pic Penel, if you had two softboxes would that even up the catchlights?

Adrian and Laurence glad you made it to Wisley before the end of the butterflies and really nice pics, I nearly went yesterday but went up the park instead then to the allotment for a big bonfire, which thinking about it now I should have taken a shot of it for my 52 week thing, bugger...

anyway if anybody feels like clicking my link as i could do with a small boost I would be grateful

I dunno is the answer, - quite possibly. But do I want even catchlights - I'm not sure I like images that are really evenly lit both sides?

will go and vote for you - can't believe you need a small boost though ;):p:lol:

cheers Penel, as for your doggie pic, firstly I love it as it is, the background suits it so well and the dog is really lovely and crisp and nicely lit, it was just something I though I would ask as I noticed the catchlights were uneven and as I have been buying all of Slys old lighting kit and am just about to start using it for portraits and just wondered if you or anybody knew?

The Thunderbird side works fine, so i will just copy those settings onto the iPad! :D

LOL I have no idea really I don't. I had a 24" softbox to my left shoulder and above me (about 2ft above the dogs eyes pointing down towards him), and the other speedlight behind him pointing to the background. This one had a diffuser cap thingy on it, and also some tape to block out more light so it wasn't too strong. Then a reflector to my right (the dog's left shoulder) which was taped in the right place so it put some light back onto the side of his face. I've never been on a shoot where they've used two softboxes, usually it's a main light on one side, then something like a gridded beauty dish on t'other side. Then two more lights, one each side of the background, facing the background. Some people (Tim Flach) have about 8 lights, some tiny ones to try and bring out details on the animals face. It's so complicated and I'm always trying different things.
I would imagine if you had two softboxes, you could end up with 2 catchlights in each eye? I think you need more shadow on one side to give more perspective otherwise the subject can end up looking flat. That's just my opinion though and not at all based on any knowledge :lol:

I started off using just one shoot through umbrella or 1 softbox.. I find the light spread from my D-Lite's is much better now I have two softboxes!

The brightness on her R/H side is from her position to the hilite.. It does give much more even light have two softboxes, sometimes its nice to use just one to get a more edgy look!

no but ive given up trying to track down all my photos and get them removed, this site dosent seem to bad, if you download it from here then the res isnt much kop so you cant do much with it, just wish these sites would ask the photographer whos photo it is first before they post it up...

ok but I see that now you have two catchlights in each eye, not thats a bad thing I just wondered how you can get them even in each eye, the macro frog thing we used two lights but only saw one CL in each eye, perhaps it was the positioning of the lights...

I guess it's all about the positioning of the lights.. I have always had two catch lights in the eyes!

Got my e-mail working, used the info from my Thunderbird account settings.. :D
