Agree - nice shots. Can't wait for Chris to see them :)

I'm sure someone will quote them if he doesn't happen to see them.

Although, it's a very good example of how these huge spiders are effectively camoflagued against a garden path. You'd never see them until they happen to run onto your shoe.

thanks Penel I just thought I would ask as I know if ask Sly he will sell me two more lights and 6 softboxes :D

ok but I see that now you have two catchlights in each eye, not thats a bad thing I just wondered how you can get them even in each eye, the macro frog thing we used two lights but only saw one CL in each eye, perhaps it was the positioning of the lights...

how were they angled Mark?

Matt Peters wrote in post #13974978 (external link)
I guess it's all about the positioning of the lights.. I have always had two catch lights in the eyes!

hmm I always aim for one catchlight in each eye, not two. I remember a photographer saying to me when were talking about lights " there's only one sun in the sky" Horses for courses I think.

with this chap we used two lights/softboxes but only one CL in each eye, perhaps its different with people, not that it looks odd or anything I just wondered

have any of you seen this site? http://www.72dpi.com/ (external link) its kind of like 500px but a bit more simple kind of like 500 was a month ago, looks kind of nice

I saw someone on 500px talking about it in the comments next to their image, guess it's always going to be like this - people move from one site to the next.

It's possible that because of the recessed eyes you just weren't getting reflections from the 'other' softboxes? It definitely looks better with only 1 catchlight IMO though.

I sometimes find them in the bath, hiding under the plug. The jump out when I touch the chain; I guess they think it's a fly landing.

Looking more closely at your owl portrait above Mark, the orange in the eyes are slightly different colours. I wonder if a) that was natural and his eyes are always slightly different or b) is it because two lights are lighting his eyes or c) one light stronger than the other - were they both at the same strength?

I believe that they can jump quite high too.

Thanks Jonathan - yeah, I did wonder whether to put a spider warning out first lol.

Pete, these arent particularly large. These are the outside ones - I have never seen one of this particular type of Wolf spider indoors. These must be fairly youngish ones as they werent that big really. They do jump a lot and run pretty fast thought.

These were on some stone on the rockery but there were hundreds of them around the garden sunning themselves.

They do jump a lot, even when they meet each other they both jump and run lol. Quite amusing watching them.

Saw a couple of adult Nursery Web spiders too but couldnt get any pics yet.

If you look at the owl catch lights they are different sides, so to me it looks more like the position of the lights is only creating one catch..
