I agree with Paul Mark maybe you should of gone for a bit more flash.

I don't think there's much you can do unless the tanks are well illuminated.

50mm 1.8 with high ISO, then later noise reduction in LR.. Where you off to?

Most modern aquariums are very well lit and providing you've got a fairly quick, wideish lens I think you should be good to go! Remember to share them :D
