Morning all - very unreliable internet connection and next to no mobile signal here - quite nice though really. Weather still crap, unbelievably windy even for Norfolk. Barn owl came v late last night was almost dark :( boat trip planned for tomorrow and hoping weather improves.
Hope you're all having a good week - great shot Mat, saw it on fb, will go to 500px if connection will let me.

Odd thing to ask on a photography forum but I trust you lot. Does anyone have any recommendations for replacement windscreens? Don't want to go through insurance so want to avoid the mega-pricey Autoglass and alike.

What's wrong with paying the insurance excess, Chris?

I know someone who has used http://www.budgetwindscreens.co.uk (external link)

They said the service was straight forward and no frills but good and a lot cheaper than the big names.

I'm guessing insurance won't pay as it's not damage, it's just years of scratches and tiny tiny chips. Nothing in drivers view either.

Tempted :)

I even googled along the same sort of lines :D

Got one quote of £165 so far so not too bad. Autoglass quotes are nearer £1k which is astonishing when you think that insurance companies use them and just pay up. No wonder our insurance is so expensive. Although, saying that, mine went down last year.

Just make sure that the screen is up to the right standard and has the kite mark, etc.

You wouldn't want something cheap now that might cost more later on down the road, especially where legality/safety is involved.

Good point. Thanks, something I didn't think of checking. I did not one company said this:

"All Windscreens supplied are of "OE" original equipment standard. Our technicians are fully trained with a minimum 5 years experience"

Just checking for the standards on their site now.

Thanks, Pete, what you said stuck in my mind a bit so I paid about £40 more and went with one of the bigger household name companies.

Ah, well, £40 isn't a bad price for peace of mind. Sorry to put the frighteners on you though.

Yep, I made you spend more money! :D

Need and "help" with anything else? Whatever you want to do, I can find a more expensive option.
