Probably a silly question here, but what's a "Ring" function?

Mike wrote in post #14696104 (external link)
I'd like to know too! And I am almost interested...been thinking about getting a P&S for ages and as I'm out on my bike more I would rather not be lugging a 5DII round with me!

...

You can program the ring around the outside of the lens to a multitude of functions, ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, etc.

Lovely camera but wife couldn't get on with the rocker switch for zoom so we bought her a Fuji X10 which has zoom on the lens itself.

Mate's rates if you want it, Mike.

Thanks chaps, personally I think the shot I posted sunday night is the best of the shoot but as I said the weather didn't help didn't give us enough time plus the wind picked up and most of the shoot was done without any lights as they kept blowing over even with the legs dug into the shingle.

One more.

I just bought myself a new mountain bike. It was expensive enough to force me into being motivated enough to use it.

Well, that's the plan anyway.

I am looking at getting a hybrid, my racer is 26 years old so I am tempted to get something a bit newer.

Mike wrote in post #14695849 (external link)
Great stage win for Wiggins yesterday too

I got a new bike a couple of months ago. Been riding as much as I can and have lost a decent amount of weight so far. It is about 8.5 miles on my cycle route to work (I drive the first bit as it would be nearly double that otherwise!) and I cycle to work 2-3 times a week. It's good (except I feel knackered today and not looking forward to the ride home :|

Strava is also a good app for cycling: http://app.strava.com/athletes/422956 (external link)

Keep up the good work, getting rid of a few pounds is part of my motivation.

Wiggins is really doing well, would like to see Cavendish get a few wins as well.

Why all the fuss? It's just a stick with one end on fire :p:)

Which is prone to going out;)

Ronin Silv wrote in post #14695938 (external link)
Tell that to Euro Tunnel they've had me painting parts of the tunnel no one ever sees, even when the your fiery stick goes through, white only to hide the graffiti on the walls only to be covered in more graffiti by the next day. I've painted the same bit a tunnel six times in the past eight weeks

Why don't they get you to do it a day or two before and then put some security out

Pete wrote in post #14696071 (external link)

I am glad you asked and glad it is not what first sprung to mind:D

Mike wrote in post #14696104 (external link)
One day, definitely. My aim is to cycle up Mont Ventoux in France before I am 40 so I have a few years to get ready for that!

Might be a stupid question but why Mont Ventoux

Ronin Silv wrote in post #14696153 (external link)
I didn't get all I wanted from this shoot due to weather but here is some of what we got on Sunday there are a few more on both Flickr and Facebook.

So I give you The Bullet Mistress Part Deux

This is definitely the best of the bunch.

You should let the local police know when you are out shooting, don't want the local firearms team turning up;)

Nice bit of carbon fibre is what you want ;)
Mont Ventoux is a classic, its where Tom Simpson died (in the Tour). But Mike may have other reasons

I got it on a cycle to work scheme - you should be able to join one of those with your job I'd have thought?

Might be a stupid question but why Mont Ventoux

Ah, Mont Ventoux dominates the skyline in the part of Provence that we visit regularly and features in the Tour de France, very popular with cyclists. Info: http://www.grenoblecycling.com/MontVentoux.htm (external link)

And a photo, that's it in the background.

@ #Andy carbon fibre might be beyond my budget

@Mike the Boardman one looks nice are you pleased with it? That mountain looks like fun we should have a POTN outing

I was looking at the Carera Crossfire 3 (external link) which looks a bit beefier than yours and has wider tires.

The other is Specialised sirrus sport (external link) I have not seen this one in flesh but looked at the other two in Halfords earlier today.

I did a twenty mile cycle earlier and feel knacked now. That was was with a break to do some bits in town. Work is 16 miles each way :(
