Hi everyone,

I've just created my first image (of M42) using DSS and saved it as a 16 bit TIFF. When I open the file in Photoshop elements the image is different i.e. the level of detail is lost and the image is not as good as it is when it is viewed in DSS.

When I re-open the file in DSS the image has the level of detail I am looking for!

Can anyone help me over come this problem?

Thanks in advance

Is photoshop converting it to an 8-bit Tiff? That's what GIMP does.

Setting that only applies any changes you made to color contrast and luminance using DSS. You don't need to do that if you're only going to complete the PP using Photoshop anyways.
I prefer to save with Changes Embedded, rather than with Changes Applied. At this point you don't want to alter the image data that you will want to make good use of in Photoshop..

Once loaded into Photoshop your tiff file might look darker than it did in DSS, as though you lost data and detail. But you haven't it's still there, Tiff is a Lossless format and will preserve the image data from the DSS stack. But it's up to you to bring it out by doing things such as stretching the histogram carefully to begin with. Then working on color corrections and other enhancements.
