Hey guys

I got some extension tubes and took this pic....

is this good for a macro shot or are extension tubes rubbish?

their is lots of CA on the sides of the picture

Extension tubes generally won't affect your image quality (other than adding magnification) because there's no glass in them. The CA would be coming from your lens, not the tubes.

Extension tubes don't inherently reduce the quality of the lens, but they can take them beyond the magnification they were designed for and expose "defects" not visible at lower magnifications. CA generally gets worse with magnification, so that's probably what's going on here, and I've seen it when I've done the same with some of my lenses.

I've just got a set of extension tubes and had a play last week to see what I could do - looks like its going to be a learnign curve for me but will be a good introduction and if I like it I can always go and get a true macro lens
