I currently own a 60d and use it 80% of the time shooting real estate and thought about purchasing the 1D Mark 4 and wondered if I'd know the difference. I bring this up cuz I just bought the 100-400L and noticed a lot of people with this lens own a 1dMK4 and am amazed at the quality of pics. The real estate photography is not my full time job and basically I do it cuz I enjoy real estate and it supports my habit of taking pictures. I wouldn't have a problem spending the money on a camera, so should I splurge? One other question is will my Tamron 10-24 work on the 1D?

If you feel the 60D is holding you back, then upgrade.
If it was me, and I was just doing real estate, I wouldn't bother.

If your Tamron 10-24 is an EF mount, then yes it will fit a 1 Series body.
If it's an EF-s mount, then it won't.
Another thing to bear in mind is that it may have been made for a crop body, but has an EF mount, it will fit and you will be able to take photos, but you will have a heavy vignette which you'll need to crop out.

If just for Real Estate, no. If for other stuff, absolutely yes.

Why did you buy the 100-400? What will you be shooting with it?

I'm asking because the 1D4 is a body that has very high performance features that excel in certain types of shooting, things like sports and other "action" shooting that demand a top-of-the-line AF as well as speed of various types. If you got the 100-400 for such types of shooting then if you can afford the 1D4 then sure.

But for "general purpose" photography you probably won't see much benefit. But you would end up with a big, heavy camera to lug around:)!

1D4 doesn't really do wide very well
At least the 60D has a 10mm options (which is really 16mm) but there's not many ways to get 16mm on a 1D4
And in real estate, you do need to go wide frequently

If you can afford it, get it. I went through all the recent bodies and the mark iv just excels. If you keep the 60d then you can pair with your tamron for wide shots. If you shoot birds in flight, sports and other action, or have aspirations to do so, then nothing in canons lineup is better.

Shooting primarily real estate a FF would be better, but then you may have to re asses your WA lenses setup, as you may for a 1.3 crop over a 1.6 anyhow.

Maybe wait till the 1D X is out, and see how the 2nd hand market is for another body, gives you spare cash for another lens. T&S lens maybe for the real estate work

If I was primarily doing real estate, I would definitely use a FF body such as the 5DM2. I also would not be using a 100-400mm lens...I would be using a much wider lens.

Now if you are wanting to do other things besides real estate, such as wildlife/sports, then the Mark IV might be a good camera for both. Its 1.3x sensor isn't as cropped as the 60D, giving you a "middle-ground" sensor that would be suitable for both venues.

I bought the 100-400 to take pics of my nephews playing baseball and football and whatever pops up that I feel like using it for. I don't use it for real estate. I use the Tamron 10-24. I looked the other day at the tilt shift lens and I was very overwhelmed with how to use it and it made me love my Tamron much more. I'm looking at the change in camera because as of now we don't have kids and I have the money. That will change in the future ; ) I figured if I buy the 1DMKIV now, I shouldn't have to upgrade for a long time. Along with taking pics of my nephews sports, I'm sure I will be taking sports pics with my kid, hopefully hockey pics!!!!!
