I couldn't find the "Giottos Rocket Blaster" at my local camera store so I purchased the "Optex digi blower" instead.

For those unfamiliar with these, the purpose is to blow dust off of your DSLR's sensor.

my question is there a big difference in quality between the two. Did I make a mistake not buying the "recommended" unit

thx

Its recommended by Canon aswell
So far its doing excellent job. But i may need Copperhill solution soon.

I can't find an "Optex digi blower" exactly, but my rule of thumb would be that if the body of the blower is larger than a child's fist then it should be fine. The Rocket Blower is exceptional, but I have another generic blower that's quite large and does an excellent job. The practical difference between the Rocket Blower and the second-best blower (whatever that may be) is probably very slight.

One of those foot-pumps used for inflating air mattresses is even more powerful than the Rocket, but I have concerns of dust entering those and getting added to the air stream.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Those little blowers don't even compare to the Rocket Blowers. I have the medium and smaller one for the camera bag. They just provide more air psi over the smaller configured ones.
