So I just picked up a new t3i and had a sigma 50mm 2.8 lying around that I bought for $100. I ended up selling it for $350 and bought a sigma 15mm fisheye with it.

Now I want to shoot some video and realized the 50mm was probably perfect for that task. I do have a sigma 17-70mm as well but I am curious would either the 17-70 or the 15mm work as a video lens. Obviously the fisheye will distort when I want that effect. Or should I pick up another prime lens in the future maybe a sigma 30mm 1.8?

I'm not looking to shoot professionally, just some Ameteur videos of snowboard and mountain bike trips. I'm guessing 17-70 will do the trick for awhile?

Any thoughts?

You got probably the maximum amount you would ever get from selling that lens. You could pick up a 50mm f/1.8 for $100, although the focus ring is hard to use for video.

The Signma 30mm would probably be the best range for a video in close ranges. The 50mm is a long at times on a crop body.

Any lens should be okay enough for regular video, you just need to manual focus.

Great. I will probably invest in that later on. Right now I am still going through the shock of replacing all my camera equipment. I'll take the government for taking too much out of my check all year though.

BTW I sold that 50mm in 30 minutes so I was pretty excited to get that much for it.
