Camera is back and settings were reset. Cannot for the life of me find the setting to have the joystick/multi-controller directly change the AF points without the need for pressing any buttons first.

Help is greatly appreciated.

On the 7D it's under custom controls where you assign button functions, and you have to tell it what you want the multi-controller to do. So it's not really a custom function, but under custom controls. Not sure if 1D III is set up same way.

Nope, they're completely different. I know I had it set this way before but I cannot find the setting :(

Oh wow, finally found it.

C. Fn III 3. Very sneaky, since it's just a little picture thing instead of the words "multi-controller"

Phew.

Ok, now get it set the way you want and save the settings to your CF card. :)
