I remember shooting that lantern parade a few years ago. Biggest headache from trying to WB. Looks like you got it figured out, nice shots!

I miss venturing into the Boston area... ever since I left my job, the only times I go in are with my family to Franklin Park Zoo or the Museum of Science. Which reminds me... Franklin Park Zoo is opening a huge new playground on the 15th. My son can't wait to go, keeps asking when it will be open.

have you tried the roger williams zoo since you're in RI? I heard it's tons better than Franklin in terms of animals.

So I just got hired to photograph a local body builder (young guy... early 20's)... gonna have to start reading up on techniques for lighting.

You want a harder light source for the key light than you would use for a female. In my selfie, I used a 22" BD about 4 feet away. If I used a 47" octo, The muscles and veins would be flat and blend in. Rim lighting isn't a bad idea either.

Was thinking of using a gridded 24x36 softbox camera right and high at 45*, bare 7" reflector camera left (same axis as model) and bare 7" reflector camera right and behind model.

At least, that's what I got from looking at this example:

Also, have him pump up literally minutes before u shoot using pushups, dumbbells etc. Getting a big pump can make a big difference. I also out a bit of massage oil on my chest and arms. Not so much oil that I looked too wet, but enough to give a bit more specularity.

I always have massage oil in my house :)

A 24x36 might work. You can also borrow my BD if u want. This might be a good use for the modeling light too.

Thanks for the humor Adam, and for the offer Russ. This is a trade-for-time gig since it's my first. I'll cut my teeth on that (he knows I haven't done this before, and is ready to work on the final concept as we run through the day).

Looking at next Saturday, so no time to practice beforehand. I've really got to get rid of this fulltime job thing... holding me back right now.

We are members of Roger Williams Zoo.. We live about 10 minutes away, and 2 perks of that membership are: FREE admission to the Boston Museum of Science, and half-price admission to Franklin Park Zoo. We take our 4-year-old son to Roger Williams maybe once a week, and we have been to Franklin Park Zoo and Museum of Science a few times already this year, so it paid for itself months ago. I like when that happens! In fact, we will be hitting Franklin Park Zoo this coming Friday, they are opening up a new huge playground tomorrow, but temps will be in the low 80's by Friday.

Definitely make him do pushups and a quick spring before shooting.

Don't get too excited with the Massage Oil >=)
