Is the floor not done well because you intend to replace the whole thing eventually? Was it DIY?

Wow, that's nuts!

I'm hesitant to bring it to your attention- considering all the crap you've already gone through... But what are you going to do about that baby they left in your house? As if you needed any more financial burden...

You can't just bring a baby to the dump... :)

Yeah, Bri and I would offer to take him off your hands but we're not supposed to talk about stuff like that outside the marketplace. Would kids fall under accessories or bodies?

Assuming you were talking to me - for now as a stop gap, when the inlaws came down (they have every tool you could think of), they brought their tools, and spare hardwood, and we cut it all up, put it in place. I need to take a more upto date photo with the walls painted and flooring done. In the long run, we will prob have to redo the whole floor with new hardwood - but that can wait for now.

Make him used to tools and put him to work?

depends, if he helps out with your gear - an accessory, or if he just sleeps about, then a lazy body.

then there were the toilets - that was easy DIY - 2 x new toilets for about $500, take out the old, install the new in about an hour each bathroom.

Old toilets were OLD, and designed for midgets (the 14" tall cheap ****e when the place was first built). No idea how people could even USE them. Then flush after flush as the flushing power was utterly bollocks.

I installed the new ones, 1 flush, so easy, no need to constantly re-flush, plus they are those higher seating level ones. Money well spent, and water (= money) saved.

Alright... Hope to survive tomorrow. About to leave for NC, into the path of the hurricane. Not afraid of the storm... More concerned about my heat giving out.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

haters gotta hate!

We are now subscribed to angie's list (we weren't before), since we want to redo the kitchen. Have some pipes moved so we can open the kitchen up, and throw in an island. Gotta find someone reputable so we can get the permits in place.

Man, i'll tell ya... the prospects of hiring someone who messes up my house scares me. Not so much that they mess up my house, but because of my nature. I couldn't let them get away with that.

we were lucky, they did more rather than less. So when they put the drywall on, where the fireplace was, for some really odd reason, they caked it with plaster. It didn't need plastering. So we spent an age sanding it down - really dusty job! Other than that, they were actually neat and tidy with their work (meaning they didn't butcher the **** out the place! That was our fear. But they did a decent job.

I think they rushed at the end to finish it off, because I told them that they were pissing me off to no end that my wife or I would take a day off work, and they would call 30-40 mins before they were to arrive saying they couldn't make it in because of <insert lame excuse>. The excuses got worse and worse until I flat out said that I'd get someone else to finish their work, and charge them the bill as they weren't doing what we asked them to do. So they did come in and finish the job.

We were glad to see the back of them, not to use them again. So all these "minor" issues to make it all look clean, we can do ourselves. Would have been nice to not have to do this, but heck, show me a single contractor who is prompt, on time, makes no bull**** excuses, and does everything right 1st time without you having to argue once with them...

Oh, and he couldn't bull**** me about, so I guess he didn't bother when he first came to look and do an estimate, he was casually asking what I did. So when I stated I was an Engineer, and we also do a lot of civil / structural work, I have plenty of friends who would be able to verify / take a look at something and say what would need to be done. What he could and prob did was bull**** on the price - what contractor doesn't mark up by 32094832432%?
