There's a Loyalty Program thread in the Market Section. Not sure how up to date it is, but last time I looked it contained the discounted prices. Typically, people take advantage of it by trading in a broken p&s. There's no price advantage to trading in a broken dslr, as you'll get the same discount.

You may be better off selling the camera. Where did you get it? Anything else wrong with it? I could possibly buy it off of you, since I don't use the USB port. PM me.

I wouldn't trade the 5D, i'd pick up something off of craigslist for 20 bucks. I returned the camera to the seller, he already refunded me. I'll check out the thread on the loyalty program though, thank you.

the current promotion (20%) is better than the CLP for the 5D2 anyway (they dropped it to like 10% when people were actually using the program). Problem is, with Canon's new releases, over the last year or so the interest in the program has died down because prices haven't been reduced to be more in tune with the used market (and the 5D2 was dropped from 20% discount to 10% discount).

That said, your absolute best bet is to purchase used locally on the 5D2, or from someone with decent feedback here or on FM. You'll absolutely get a better price. Shame you weren't interested when I sold mine.. under a year old, ~11k clicks, looked like it was just taken off the shelf. I ended up doing the body and grip for ~1300 (which is low even by current prices, which have rebounded, UGH.)

Wow... I thought last month was 3 paycheck month... my mistake. It's March. I somehow managed to put an entire paycheck into savings in February - it's been sorta tight otherwise, but I fell back on some cash in savings. So... next month, I will either have an entire paycheck to blow or to stuff into savings. What to do... what to do... haha.

Just rambling... I really need to save it.

sometimes you get what you pay for...ie craig's list! I avoid Craig's List the like the plague....too many horror stories to be worth saving a buck or 2. The are some "steals" to be had...but in general, there are more shady people on craigs list than at photo forums and retail dealers.

Craigslist isn't always bad, but it definitely isn't cut and dry. Just cover your tracks. I use a secondary email for initial contacts, and once I feel pretty sure that A) the person isn't a scammer / etc and B) the person is serious about the transaction and has provided some proof of this, I'll get right into it.

not bad if you've got a big dog and/or a shotgun handy...

i love craigslist. i've gotten a brand new indirect superstor water heater for pennies on the dollar off of craigslist when mine crapped the bed. a 1400 dollar tank for 375. had to drive an hour each way, but it was worth it.

there's always a bunch of good free stuff week to week. you have to check it often though to really score. i've never had a problem *selling* anything on CL though...as for buying consumer electronics...generally i buy new, so it hasn't been a problem for me.

There was a period where I was checking craigslist religiously, very OCD like. At this point, I am mostly happy with my setup. I was mostly doing it because I wanted to try a bunch of things and could turn a profit if I didn't end up liking something.

I just submit a search into www.clgenie.com (external link) and they notify me when there's a listing that matches my criteria. This is how we scored some good deals on Ikea mirrors.

Haha... maybe. They have these 6 ft mirrors called Mongstad. They typically sell new for $99... last fall, the prices rose up to $129 or something like that and now they're back down. We have two of these mirrors and I paid $50 each. I'd like a couple more, but haven't seen great prices on them. Typically available during the summer as students start moving out.
