"Unofficial" one, I'll be near Boylston street for brunch and will see what trouble I can get into

Sometimes I'll do stupid things for the shot ..40+ feet up, no hand holds, was worth it.

Where's the shot?

I was actually free today and thought of heading there after seeing your previous images but wound up going gun shopping instead.

I was only back 2 days in a row because as soon as I got back to my car I had realized I lost my sunglasses. My friend who was with me found 'em when we came back. So I was happy.

Thanks. I'm happy to guide anyone who wants back there. It's relatively easy to find the area, but the cool little things like hidden ladders and stuff are not easy to find.

Are those the buildings by the tipped over water tower?

Some of my pals and I used to mountain bike in there all the time and when we stumbled upon it one of them stuck their head in it and started yelling all sorts of stuff. Of course me being the nice guy that I am immediately spotted a pipe laying close by and started banging the hell out of the side of it.

No water tower back there anywhere I've seen. Been back there dozens of times.

Yeah it was about eighteen years ago, it wouldn't surprise me if they removed it for liability reasons given it was covered in rust back then. I'm pretty surprised they haven't removed the ladders as well especially since we live in the age of zero personal responsibilities.

The ladders are made by the grafitti artists back there...so they're makeshift, but not original

I kicked the shopping bug this weekend. Feels much better now. Next on the list is converting my sister-in-law's room (who moved out in November), to a work/study room for me and my wife. Painted it a light french grey (external link)on Saturday. It'll be nice to have a space to work.

Under what type of lighting do you guys normally work under when you edit photos?

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

Thank you, Harm! I guess if I'm asking such a question I don't quite need it yet. I do have a single 580ii but never went beyond bouncing it off the ceiling or filling in a backlit kid. Gotta do the flash homework first :)

Scott - amazing dedication to work! Got vertigo just looking at these!

Earlier you've mentioned Lake Quannapowitt - took the kids there on Saturday, just lovely but no eagles. Thanks for the tip though!

Yesterday I was driving near Sherborn when I glimpsed a red farmhouse beautifully lit up by the setting sun. Got a couple before a thought hit me => is it legal to take pictures of а private property (from a public place) without the owner's consent?
Here's one (I'm not physically within property's borders)

I'm not a lawyer, but essentially, as long as you're not circumventing anything to get the picture (climbing a fence, standing on an object to look past something), anything you take that can be seen via public passage is fair game. You absolutely own copyright to the image as you created it lawfully, and buildings, etc visible from public passages are considered public domain.

That said, if you got approached about getting it into something like a 'Farmhouses of New England' calendar/book/etc and were going to get paid, I think it's absolutely the right thing to do to go back and negotiate a fee for the owner of the property.
