i have a telescope i plan on bringing up. so in light of that, i'll probably be taking several thousand pictures all told. not to mention the daytime scenery is at least top 5 in the united states in my opinion.

This is one of the most highly regarded tripods in that price range.

going to baxter state park in june to camp for maybe 7-10 days. being im a relative noob to dslr's, and i am going backcountry camping (zero amenities), access to electricity will only be available through my car. what i first figured on doing is buying a car charger for the lp-e8 batteries...but with the amount of hiking (1 mile each way to and from the site) and the length of time it'll take to charge...i figured id buy perhaps 8 or 10 lp-e8's to go along with the 3 i already have...that should last me the week i'd think.

any other alternatives im overlooking? the grip came with a AA battery carrier...how long do they last? any experience?

I went to Millinocket a few years ago. Great place - I'd go again (Baxter State Park). Nice along the Golden Road - lots of moose (that we never saw, was the "worst time" of the year to see them!). But it was a good laugh with friends. Light pollution is minimal , so i am interested in what you get!

I've owned it. A bit heavy, but fantastic tripod and fairly strong to boot.

harm, i really look forward to it. i probably wont be able to do any crazy long exposures...i have no auto guiding mount. i do have an 8" celestron reflector though, so the viewing should be very good for deep space. im gonna try taking a few hundred 1second exposures of andromeda and stack them to see what i get.

thanks for the reviews on the tripod...i think ill go with that one.

haha I have a feeling you're buddies with all the photojournalists I'll run into around here. I should have thrown your name out there lol. Next time you talk to him let him know I'm the real subject in that picture

Also, that's pretty cool to think about you were with the man who ran the country for several years. Crazy. Is that Samuel L Jackson behind him in green?
