Not the Double Down from KFC? I could understand his pissiness if that were the case, but all this saber rattling over the Dorito taco is a bit excessive.

Things would have really hit the fan if he knew about our Double Down.

So i've had my current MBP for like 5 years now...

I've decided to replace it with something new. Lenovo no longer offers the W700, i looked at the HP Elitebook which has a RGB IPS screen in 17", then i looked at the Dell Precision m6700 which also has an RGB IPS Screen, also in 17". I also took a brief look at the Razer Blade and Alienware m17x.

All are great laptops, but nothing really stood out to me. Then i went down the road of the Lenovo x230t, a laptop/tablet, for on the road editing... until i saw the tiny screen size. Can't work with that.

Realizing that nobody makes 1900x1200 resolution anymore, i started to read about the new 15.4" MBP with retina display. Smaller real estate but higher resolution. Pretty good hardware and an excellent warranty.

I think i'm going to settle on the MBP. I know some of you are computer folk... do any of you have any input as to why i shouldn't? I'd primarily be running Windows 7 on it, not OSX. Used mostly for email, and photo editing while on the road...

So much money.. to me, it's tough to justify the cost, even for a busy working professional like yourself.

That said, your options are otherwise somewhat limited. For the power you get in the MBP and the way it handles the programs that would be used by a photo professional... ugh. I see why you're wavering a bit..

Well, the HP Elitebook and the Dell Precision m6700 both check off all my boxes, but man, the form factor is huge. It's impossible to want everything but not sacrifice something...

I'm starting to feel the 15MBPr is the best compromise. Once you spec out the HP Elitebook and Dell M6700 , they both come to the same price as the 15 MBPr.

Damn, this is one of the hardest decisions i've had to make in quite some time...

I am looking at the 15" MBP with retina. Prob get one within a couple of weeks - just zip up to NH to get one. I think we know someone who works for apple though, may get the 25% off through them purchasing it... I'll have to dig up and ask :D

25% that's huge! I'd take that in a heartbeat. If you want to pass that on to me also. :)

Yeah, 25% off would make it a no-brainer.

Also, open house this Sunday. Send us good vibes all -- as it turns out, someone else in our complex listed the same freaking day as us..

I remember I got a 35 or 40% discount on my Mac Pro tower....they have the "Developer" program, and you can enroll for like...100 bucks or something for just a year, and you get a one time, huge discount on a certain item, which for me was the mac pro..not sure if that still exists, but it was better than any student discount I can get.

A few more Cuba - they belong in longer form stories, so they're kind of scattered, but these are just some stuff.

I've been in the IT related field for about 6 years and the MBP retina I have is by far the best mix of performance to size. You get the i7 along with great video performance on top of above average battery life AND the ability to run Windows seamlessly (which I do for work)

I used to work for Apple and the only sucky part of that discount is they only get 25% of an item if they haven't used it on that item within the past calendar year

Is it tied to the specific model, or the entire family? In other words, if you bought a 15" rMBP, would that preclude you from also buying say a 13" or a different spec 15"?

Funny story from last night. Started a part time job a couple of weeks ago as a photo technician at the CVS in Wakefield. On Easter a customer came in and sat at one of the kiosks. I asked if she needed help but she declined. Five minutes later I asked again since she looked pretty confused. She was trying to figure out how to hook up her disposable film camera to the computer to make prints. :D

Love it if you could share that story here: https://photography-on-the.net …funny+photography+moments

That's pretty friggin' hilarious.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

From when I was there its only tied to a specific model, ergo you could buy one 15" MBPr, a 13" MBPr, etc at the 25% discount.
