I don't think you can simply show up somewhere and find a job - you'd have to be a great salesman to sell yourself. Also depends on what you might want to do. I've seen some wedding photogs set up tables at wedding expos and bridal shows. In fact, that's how we hired our videographer and we continue to spread the word about him because he was great. Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.
