I don't think you can simply show up somewhere and find a job - you'd have to be a great salesman to sell yourself. Also depends on what you might want to do. I've seen some wedding photogs set up tables at wedding expos and bridal shows. In fact, that's how we hired our videographer and we continue to spread the word about him because he was great.

You could search on Craigslist under jobs (for part-time and full time positions) and gigs (for odds and ends type opportunities). Stuff pop up all the time, but I don't know how much of that is legitimate. Whoever is hiring for these things probably pay pennies and they probably get "applications" from everyone with a camera and kit lens. Not a great way to build experience, portfolio or make income.

I'm with Scott. He would be the best person in this group to know where the real jobs are... and I presume it's a rough market to tap into.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

I'm just saying I hate that drive. I had a parking space too but paying $150/month for a spot was asinine.

Funny thing is, I parked on the street in front of my building anyway since it didn't require a Allston Resident sticker to park there. And, my monthly payment, insurance, and gas cost in Des Moines was equivalent to my monthly insurance premium out here alone.

I'm not much of a shooter when it comes to shooting anything outside of people and bands, but yesterday I went to walk around Boston and decided to make a little stop inside the public library and capture this...

Wow, that Fisheye really captures everything... great shot.

San, when i drove my Lancer back from San Fran, i started from San Fran, made it to Sparks, NV, slept for 3 hours. Then drove to Des Moines, slept 4 hours. Then a straight shot to Boston from Des Moines. By the time i got on the Mass Pike i had all 4 windows rolled down (was like 10' outside) and i was smacking myself to stay awake. I'll never do that again. But i did make it across country over a weekend (Including Friday). I didn't even bring a map, i just went 80/90 the whole way.
